While Taylor's Maid Rite is a legend in Marshalltown, the price of a sandwich is becoming hard to swallow.
Last time I was in, a Maid Rite was $2.65. Most people can eat 2 sandwiches...that's $5.30 for the sandwiches--no beverage.
That said, the food is tasty; and the ground beef and buns have a distinct flavor to them.
One more thing--unless you want to be glared at--don't ask for ketchup. |

This is the original! The "loosemeat" sandwich is outstanding - and you will not find a bottle of catsup in the building. Mustard, onions and pickles ... that's it! Order a couple with a butterscotch malt ... absolute heaven!! |

I first ate a Taylor Maid-rite when I was attending nursing school in Marshalltown in 1967. Since then I ALWAYS stop there when I go home to visit my parents JKL, Iowa City |

I used to live in Marshalltown, now I live in Texas. We don't have Maid Rites down here. I think I'm going to end up moving back just so I can order a wet one with a large vanilla malt! |

This sandwich is a legend. All Iowans from the area when returning to Marshalltown will buy them, pack them and bring them with them to where they live across the country! There is no other like it. |
