I'm new to Daytona and must say that #1, finding a place here that stays open 24/7 is next to impossible. This is the only place in town that I know of that you can go in and order aanything on the menu at 3am. #2, the owners and staff there are "down to earth" people as pointed out above in Dr. Vandermeer's post. I like that myself.
As far as smokey, as one commenter says above, the new Florida resturaunt smoking law does not allow smoking in the building. Personally, I think it's a stupid law that is costing a lot of businesses in Daytona a lot of money. Don't believe me? Go around and ask the resturaunt owners, everyone's businesses have slowed down, some to the point that they can't pay their employees. This law was the last thing a poor economy like Daytona needed.
Dixie Donuts also has karaoke on friday and Saturday nights that is a blast. |

I have been a regular customer at Dixie Donuts for about three years now. I would have to say that the New York pizza and the Buffalo wings would be my families #1 favorites. Although my wife says the homemade lasagna tops it all. My granddaughter asked if she could watch them make a pizza. The owner took us to the back kitchen. They not only let her watch, but they let her make a little pizza on her own. I was amazed at how clean this kitchen was. It is true that their pizza sauce is made with cheese, but they also have a special sauce for lactose intolerant. We finally made it there, for one of their karaoke nights. We had a great time.People from 5 to 65 up singing and dancing.I think what we enjoy the most is that everyone is treated the same here;and the owners say if you have an attitude leave it outside, because it just isn't welcome inside.A very comfortable and down to earth atmosphere, the way America should be.I asked about the autofry machine they do their frying with.It is a very expensive piece of equipment. But they purchased this machine because none of their employee's could ever get burnt using it. |

Seriously, this place is horrible. Ive been there about 5 times and everytime I feel extrememly uncomfortable. First, its really dirty inside. It's smokey and everything has that smoke yellow tint to it. Secondly, all of the food except pizza and donuts is not good. The fries are bought from a local grocery store and just cooked in some AutoFry thing, and the ice cream is not covered, so it tastes/smells like smoke. Also, even though the pizza is good, it has cheese in the sauce, so strict vegetarians cannot have pizza without cheese (because its in the sauce too). Overall this place is pretty bad. Oh and the service isn't too good either.
Bottom line: if you are a true Daytonian (republican, white trash, biker) you probably do like this place. If you are more culture-friendly and contemporary you probably will hate this place. |

Simply put Dixie is far better than a chain restaurant. The food at Dixie is outstanding. The atmosphere is inviting. Its not like chain restaurants that have a feeling like some of the employee's could care less. Dixie is family run. Sure, sometimes it is understaffed, but that's all right. What do you expect from a small town establishment? They aim to please and they succeed. Some reviews look at petty issues. Look at the bigger picture. If you want great food at an unbeatable price then Dixie is the key. The name is misleading b/c they have it all here. Ice-cream, sandwiches, pizza, you name it. And now they are starting Karaoke nights on Saturdays. Let's see a chain restaurant beat that! |

Upon first finding Dixie Donuts, I had no idea what to expect. But when ordered my first Pizza, it felt like I had found a new home in Daytona. The rarity of a local 24 hr. establishment in the Daytona area that also served great food, was the main appeal and before unheard of. But as time has passes I see more and more improvements in the food, atmosphere and general dining experience at Dixie. The ambiance, late hours of operation, service, and of course great deals on great food have made it one of my favorite places to spend time with friends while enjoying a meal, snack , or simply a cup of coffee. I would highly recommend supporting this place any chance you get, seeing as establishments that feel and welcoming and that are as enjoy able as this are few and far between. Give it a try and see for yourself. |
