Toward the end of my eggs here today my waitress plunked the $12.56 on the table, said "thank you" and walked off. A few minutes later, having finished my tea I layed three ones down, picked up the receipt and headed for the cash register...where the girl was on the phone...with her back to me. Waiting, waiting, waiting. Finally, she hung up, turned and took my credit card... and started away from the register, calling out the name of my waitress. "Excuse me," I said, "you have my bill -- I'd like to pay and get to my appoointment." "Oh, but you have to pay your server," says the register girl. I take my credit card back and head for the table. Where I wait for my "server"...who is nowhere to be seen. I flag down a manager. "Can you please take care of this? I tried to pay at the register but..." "Oh," says the manager, looking at my paperwork, "that's because you have to pay your server." "No," I said, "I want to pay the restaurant for my meal. Are you saying you don't want to take my money?" Beat. "I'll take care of it right away, sir," says the manager. Which she does. Thank you. Good meal. Overpriced. Ridiculous policy. Last time I eat here. |
